Position title: OR Nurse (RN)

Job Overview:
In the role of an OR nurse you will work within the operating suite but outside of the sterile field. OR nurses must have the ability to interact well with others during stressful or difficult situations, and they must possess a caring and empathetic attitude. Their work involves oversight of the entire surgery or procedure, from start to finish. It is highly desirable that an OR nurse possesses the ability to make critical decisions, direct others, work well with physicians and other healthcare professionals, etc. As an OR nurse, you will also be responsible for ensuring patients understand the surgery or procedure, managing operating room inventory, documenting, transporting patients from pre-op to the OR, transporting patients to PACU, performing time outs, etc.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Maintain a good working knowledge of medications commonly used in the procedural setting.
- Have knowledge of IV insertion skills and the fluids used, to include antibiotics given.
- Perform all aspects of care intra-operatively in an environment optimizing patient safety and reducing the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
- For assisting the physician during procedures, the candidate must be able to:
- a. Maintain a working knowledge of scopes, equipment, patient positioning and care.
- b. Label specimens correctly.
- c. Assist in transport of patient to recovery.
- d. Communicate patient information to the recovery RN.
- e. Treat family and patients with respect and dignity.
- f. Carry out medical and procedural aseptic techniques and universal precautions.
- g. Meet current documentation standards and policies and complete these items during each workday.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN desirable. Able to read and communicate in English. BLS and ACLS.
- Experience: One to two years of nursing practice, preferably in a peri-operative setting, or in an Operating Room.
- Type of Employees Supervised: non-licensed when requested.
- Licensure: RN Licensed by the State of Hawaii
- Special Training: Must have training or self-paced instruction in information management, and be able to utilize computers and various software programs such as: Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
